David Cameron admits he will ‘consider’ changes to Help to Buy following continued questions over the scheme’s effect on house prices.

The Prime Minister made the comments this morning following a television interview with Bank of England governor Mark Carney on Sunday in which he said ‘deep, deep structural problems’ lay beneath the housing market. A review of Help to Buy by Bank of England is due to take place in September and Cameron has now said he will consider changes to his flagship scheme. “Of course, we will consider any changes that are proposed by Mark Carney,” Cameron told the BBC’s Today programme. “But, as he said, this is a well-targeted scheme and it’s helped tens of thousands of people get on the housing ladder and to have mortgages.” This echoes comments made by Nick Clegg on Sunday in which he warned the government may need to make changes to the scheme. “I think if he [Carney] says that we need to pare back on some of the government schemes like Help to Buy, then I think we should do so,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
