E.on Next is offering some customers with low incomes or medical needs 50% off their bills this winter.

E.on Next’s Winter Support Scheme is available from 1 October 2023 to 31 March 2024 only. The term will commence from the day a customer signs up and end on 31 March 2024.

Customers don’t need to do anything to get help from the scheme – E.on said it will contact eligible customers directly.

An E.on spokesperson said: “Through our new ‘Winter Support’ scheme, E.on Next will fund up to 50% of eligible customers’ energy bills from the time they sign up through to the end of winter in March 2024.

“This offer is available exclusively to existing E.on Next customers on low incomes – less than £19,000 a year across the household – and customers who have certain medical dependency needs and a household income of less than £31,000 a year. As part of this package, E.ON Next will also write off any debt a customer has on joining the scheme at the end of the term.”

Under the scheme, eligible customers with an energy debt on joining the scheme will be offered 50% off E.on Next’s standard variable prices for the term, with the promise that their debt at the point of sign up will be removed at the end of the term if all payments are made. Eligible customers with no energy debt will be offered 25% off E.on Next’s standard variable prices for the fixed term.

Once you’ve joined the scheme, the 25% or 50% discount will be applied to your bill automatically each month and E.on Next will update the price on your meter to reflect the discounted rate.

The discount will be available across all payment methods including direct debit, prepayment and payment on receipt of bills.

Once the discount ends on 1 April 2024, customers will then be automatically moved on to E.on Next’s usual non-discounted standard variable tariff.

E.on Next said its intention is “to help as many customers as possible through this scheme, through the funding we have committed”.

The energy supplier said it will also continue to lobby for targeted financial support, such as a social tariff, to be implemented across the industry.

Am I eligible for E.on’s Winter Support Scheme?

To be eligible for the scheme, you must:

  • have been an existing E.on Next customer by 25 September 2023
  • have a smart meter (or agree to have one installed)
  • have a household income of £19,000 or less, or have medical dependency needs and a household income of £31,000 or less

E.on Next’s list of medical dependencies is as follows:

  • nebuliser or apnoea monitor
  • heart-lung or lung ventilator
  • dialysis, feeding pump or automated medication
  • oxygen concentrator
  • MDE electric showering

The sign-up process will vary depending on how E.on Next gets in touch. For example, if you receive an email, you’ll receive a link taking you to your online account where you will then be able to follow signposting allowing you to switch to the scheme. You’ll be prompted to book a smart meter appointment if you don’t have one.

E.on Next will use the information it already holds about customers, such as whether they are eligible for the Warm Home Discount scheme or if they are on the Priority Services Register, to determine who might be eligible and will contact them directly.

If you think you’re eligible for E.on’s Winter Support Scheme but haven’t heard anything, you can contact E.on Next directly by calling 0808 501 5200 or emailing hi@eonnext.com.
