An independent retailer has said it will let anyone with an HMV voucher have 50% off in its store.

The news of HMV going into administration has left many consumers with HMV gift vouchers they can no longer use.

A private record company in Kingston, Banquet Records, has decided to let anyone with an HMV voucher have 50% off until 20th January.

Management at Banquet said: “We’re very aware and sad that people are looking at losing their jobs, and we’re concerned about the effect HMV’s possible closure may have on physcial releases in general.

“However, one gripe many have is the current situation where gift cards are now no longer valid at HMVs. Whatever happened, it’s certainly no fault of the person who got someone a Christmas gift, and it’s unfair on someone to not be able to use their credit.

“We wanted to find a way to make these gift tokens valid at our store. But the system using an oyster-esque card, means we’ve got no way of knowing how much credit is on them.

“So this is the best idea we could come up with. We’ll offer anyone with an HMV gift card 50% off in our store up to and including Sunday 20th January.”

There are a few terms and conditions with this offer.

The offer applies to one single transaction in the physical store only. One transaction may include multiple items. After the transaction the HMV gift card must be handed over.

Some products (like gig tickets, pre-orders, record players and extremely limited releases) will be exempt from the 50% deal.

Consumers should be aware that Deloitte have said that in time the HMV gift vouchers may be useable if and when a new buyer for the chain is found. Banquet will not be able to return surrendered cards.

The deal can be found on deals website HotUKDeals.
