The high street bank has launched its student account for 2025, with a range of perks and an interest-free overdraft of up to £3,250.

Natwest’s Student Account includes a £85 welcome cash incentive, paid within 10 days of opening an account, and a four-year Tastecard. The offer is available to new and existing customers opening a NatWest student account.

The free Tastecard offers discounts at hundreds of restaurants and takeaways including Black Sheep Coffee, Domino’s and Krispy Kreme, as well as discounted cinema tickets and shopping offers.

Students can also benefit from a range of money management tools offered by Natwest, including a free expense tracker feature in the mobile app called Spending. Split Bill and PayMe features also make it easier to request money from friends and family.

Round-ups make it easier to begin a savings habit with the rounded-up change transferred to a 5.5% digital regular saver. Customers can also benefit from cardless cash withdrawals.

In the first year of university, a student will be able to apply for an overdraft of up to £2,000, with an interest-free overdraft of up to £3,250 made available to students from their third year of study.

Paul Slinger, head of onboarding at NatWest, said: “We aim to empower our student customers with accounts that provide immediate financial help and long-term value, supporting their success and enhancing their university experience.”

To be eligible for the account, a student must be studying a full-time undergraduate course lasting at least two years or studying a nursing course lasting a year or more. They will need to be 17 or over, have lived in the UK for at least three years, and provide a 16-digit UCAS code.

The account launch comes in the same week that Nationwide relaunched its FlexStudent account, offering £100 cashback, £120 of Just Eat vouchers, and up to £40 in Just Eat vouchers for referring friends.
