NatWest has announced the closure of 53 more branches in the UK by the end of this year.

The firm told customers what locations were affected, with branches in Accrington, Bishop Auckland and Mansfield set for the shutters to be pulled up.

Closures commence on 28 April in Dewsbury and end in Mansfield on 26 June. There will also be two of NatWest Banking Group’s affiliated Royal Bank of Scotland branches closing their doors for the last time.

Those impacted are both in Inverness, at Eastgate Shopping Centre and Harbour Road and will close on 20 February and 1 March respectively.

NatWest said in a statement to customers: “Banking has changed dramatically in recent years, with an increased demand for mobile and online services, as our customers benefit from a faster and easier way to bank.

“Closing a branch is a decision we take very seriously.

“We know it can affect those less confident with alternatives we offer. We’ll always work hard to guide and support you through the changes and find the best way to serve you from now on.”

If you rely on the branch to conduct your banking activities, NatWest has encouraged customers to use its mobile and online banking alternatives.

It also has a video banking option, which allows a chat face-to-face with a NatWest representative. You can discuss savings, mortgages, loans, credit cards and new account options during your conversation.

The bank also recommended calling their telephone teams on 03457 888 444. If you are over 60 years old and in a period of extended isolation, there is also a customer care team available to speak to between 8am and 8pm every day of the week on 0800 051 4176.

NatWest has joined the long line of banks that will be closing branches this year. Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax are closing a combined 60 branches as part of the Lloyds Banking Group network.

This year, Barclays will complete the removal of 64 branches from its banking network with six more to go in 2025.
