‘Best buy rates are up across the board’

Anna Bowes, co-founder of Savings Champion, said: “At last the base rate rises seem to be taking effect with best buy rates up across the board – easy access and shorter term fixed rates bonds and ISAs improving the most.

“Cynergy Bank launched Issue 46 of its Online Easy Access account paying 0.80% last week – the highest easy access rate seen since November 2020.

“And it’s the same picture with easy access ISAs – the current top rate of 0.77% from Yorkshire Building Society is also the highest it’s been since November 2020 and in fact the rate is even higher on balances of £50,000 and above – 0.82% tax-free AER – the same as the non-ISA version of this account.

“The current market leading short-term fixed rate bonds and ISAs were last at this level almost two years ago – just as Covid-19 and the first lockdown had seen the base rate fall to its lowest ever level of 0.10%. With another base rate decision around the corner, which could well see another increase, we’ll have to wait and see what will happen next.”
