American Express has launched three deals for customers, which include up to 30,000 bonus points for new Gold Card members.
The three offers from the credit card provider are the following:
- Up to 30,000 points for Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Cardmembers
- ‘Invite a friend’ referral points
- Fee waiver for Platinum Cashback Cardmembers
Gold Credit Card reward points
First up in the hattrick of offers is the Amex Gold Card deal.
New Amex Gold Card members can earn 25,000 points if you spend £3,000 in the first three months of the account opening. This is 5,000 more than the usual offer and can be boosted even further in your time as a new customer.
That’s because any transaction of any amount on the 15th month of you having the Gold Card will gain you a further 5,000 points. So, all in all, that adds up to 30,000 points earned altogether – 10,000 points more than the provider usually offers.
Amex says the 30,000 points (worth between £120 and £150) can then be swapped for £150 in gift vouchers at a range of shopping, travel and lifestyle partners.
It can also be used to offset purchases you make, or redeemed against flights and hotels with Amex Travel.
To access this bonus point offer, you have until 16 July 2024 to set up your account.
The benefits of having a Gold Card include:
- £5 back on Deliveroo twice per month
- Four Priority Pass accesses to 1,300 global airport lounges
- Access to exclusive experiences
- The ability to earn at least one Membership Reward point for every £1 spent, plus 2,500 additional points for every £5,000 spent, up to 12,500 additional points
Invite a friend
To get a friend onboard the Amex card train, you and the new cardholder can enjoy cashback and enhanced reward points.
You can also earn reward points at an ‘accelerated’ rate if existing customers introduce a friend to either:
- Preferred Rewards Gold Card
- The Platinum Card
- Platinum Cashback Credit Card
- Platinum Cashback Everyday Credit Card
- British Airways American Express Credit Card
- British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card
- The American Express Rewards Credit Card
- Nectar Credit Card
- Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card
How do you refer?
Existing customers can refer someone using the provider’s banking app or American Express website, where cardholders will find their unique referral link.
For all cards except the Preferred Rewards Gold Card (16 July), the offer for you and a buddy – pending approval – to benefit from choosing Amex ends on 2 July.
The gains vary across the range of credit cards from Amex. But, one example could see an Amex Gold Cardmember who invites a friend have their bonus increased from 9,000 to 14,000 Membership Rewards points for each successful referral.
Further, the ‘referrer’ will also receive an additional two points for every £1 spent, for three months, up to £6,000.
Meanwhile, the invited friend will receive 30,000 points if they spend £3,000 in the same three-month period of holding their new Amex card.
Please see below for a full table of the reward points available for introducing a friend to Amex.

Platinum Cashback
The final piece of the trio of offers is a cashback offer for new customers where the first-year annual fee (worth £25) is waived on the Platinum Cashback Card. The fee will continue after the first 12 months of account opening.
New cardholders can continue to earn 5% cashback up to £125 in the first three months.
As it stands, the Platinum Cashback Card has a 36.7% APR variable, and the cashback can equate to 1.25% depending on what you spend.
If this appeals to you, then be sure to apply before 2 July 2024, when the deal expires.
Dave Edwards, vice president of American Express, said: “With summer just around the corner, many of us will be planning holidays, shopping trips and experiences to share with friends and family.
“With this trio of limited-time offers, new and existing American Express Cardmembers have the opportunity to earn even more rewards, which they can put towards their next purchase or adventure.”
