The chain, owned by FTSE 100 giant Whitbread, rarely offers deals or cashback, and Rob Burgess from credit card loyalty expert Head for Points said that although the deal isn’t “hugely generous”, it is worth considering.
He said: “Getting any sort of discount or kickback on a Premier Inn booking is virtually impossible.
“They don’t appear on reward portals and you usually can’t book them via online travel agents such as Hotels.com, which offer rewards. The launch of a cashback offer is therefore worth noting.”
Bag your £20 reward
American Express cardholders can check whether they have been targeted for the deal on their credit card apps and add it to their card if it is available. According to Burgess, customers could be offered £20 cashback for a £120 booking at Premier Inn, although some have been offered less generous terms, such as £15 when spending £150.
To get the deal, you must pay upfront for the room before 9 February and the spending must be in one transaction, not cumulative. All 800 UK Premier Inn hotels are taking part, but those outside the UK are excluded.

If you cannot get up to the £120 spend simply by booking a room, then adding breakfast or dinner upfront rather than when you arrive could also help you get the cashback, Burgess said.
In November, American Express launched its “biggest ever” deals with a referral offer worth £500.
Credit cards with cashback offers
American Express cashback credit cards frequently offer cashback on select spending at stores; for example, 10% back when you book trains through LNER or 15% back at Uber Eats.
These credits are made on top of the usual cashback you receive for spending with these cards, but you must add the offers to your card manually to be eligible.
Other card providers offer similar deals. For example, Halifax Cashback Extras is currently offering 5% back at Whitbread’s Brewers Fayre pubs and 10% back if you spend at Leon.
But if you choose to use credit cards for the perks, ensure you pay back your spending in full at the end of the month, otherwise the benefit you receive will be dwarfed by the interest you pay.
