Asda has launched an unlimited tea and coffee deal for pensioners to enjoy during the winter months.

For just £1, over-60s can enjoy soup, a roll and unlimited tea or coffee in one of its UK cafes as part of the two-month ‘winter warmer’ offer, which first kicked off two years ago.

This offer runs all day for seven days per week until the end of February, with the soup options being tomato, chicken or vegetable.

Asda has also invited over-60s to share a brew in the 205 rebranded Chatty Cafes, where they can meet and bond with other pensioners.

The initiative hopes to provide some respite to households who may be struggling financially or feeling lonely during the festive season.

Ian McEvans, Asda’s commercial vice president of fresh and frozen, said: “We know winter is set to be incredibly hard for thousands of pensioners as they continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income.

“We’ve already served 60,000 meals to the over-60s in the first two weeks, and since its launch, 1.2 million meals have been sold, showing the vital need for this initiative.

“By bringing Winter Warmers back for 2024 and extending it until February, we hope it will prove just as impactful across the winter months for those who need it most.”

The supermarket giant also found that households with the lowest income in the UK have an average weekly shortfall of £66.

With energy bills set to rise from January, YourMoney.com has gathered the other free or less expensive ‘winter warmers’ that are available in supermarkets, retailers, and pubs.

Waitrose

In this long-running deal, when you sign up for a myWaitrose membership and scan your card, you can grab a free regular tea or coffee from a self-serve machine.

You’ll need to bring your own reusable cup from home to have the drinks, which are supplied by Nero Roasting Company.

Morrisons

The supermarket’s deal, called the ‘Winter Refills Allowance’, references the Government’s decision to make the Winter Fuel Payment means-tested from now on, but is open to all customers.

The deal allows you to refill a hot drink for free, with prices for the first drink starting from £1.85.

Greggs

This free regular coffee with any purchase deal also needs you to be signed up to a loyalty card and download the Greggs App.

IKEA

Like at Morrisons, this deal is not strictly just for pensioners. It is available to every IKEA shopper who signs up for an IKEA family card.

You can get a free cup of tea or coffee from Monday to Friday in all of its 22 restaurants found in stores, apart from in Hammersmith and Aberdeen’s Order and Collection Point. In addition, none of the Plan and Order Points the homeware store has will have the offer available.

Wetherspoons

You can enjoy free refills in any of the Wetherspoon pubs on a range of drinks including flat whites, cappuccinos and hot chocolates, as well as teas and coffees.

Prices vary up and down the UK, with the Lavazza coffees on sale for under £2 and as cheap as £1 in some parts of the country.

You do not need to stay in the venue to enjoy the refill, as takeaway cups are free to take, so you can enjoy your drink on the move or journey home.
