Tesco has slashed the prices on over 150 popular own-brand products to ease the burden on families going into the new year.

The supermarket giant says it’s decreasing the cost of everyday items by an average of 12.5% as a way of helping customers spend less on their weekly shop.

Among the price reductions are fresh fruit, vegetables, and staples of household cupboards including cereal and instant coffee.

However, the new prices will not be in every one of its supermarkets in the UK, but in ‘the majority’ of Tesco’s larger stores, while prices may vary in Express stores and its home delivery service Whoosh.

Selected Tesco price cuts:

  • Tesco Strawberries (227g) – down 30p to £2.00
  • Tesco Blueberries (250g) – down 35p to £2.65
  • Tesco British Pork Sausages (8 pack 454g) – down 30p to £2.00
  • Tesco Large pineapple (each) – down 50p to £1.30
  • Tesco Gold Instant Coffee (200g) – down 50p to £2.50

The retailer is also committing to lock the prices of over a thousand everyday products until Easter 2024 – similar to the pledge Morrisons made at the start of this year.

As well as a decrease in how much items on the shelves cost, the supermarket is reintroducing its ‘Kids Eat Free’ scheme to 314 of its cafes in the UK.

Kids Eat Free deal brought back for 2024

The move will commence in time for half-term on 12-23 February and offers children the chance to receive a free meal when a paying adult presents their Clubcard and spends just 60p in the café.

It follows Tesco’s announcement that Clubcard holders will collect double the amount of points for the next seven weeks – the first time this has happened in more than a decade.

Tesco Group chief commercial officer, Ashwin Prasad, said: “After the expense of Christmas, January can really stretch family budgets and families are looking for great value more than at any other time.

“By focusing our price cuts on truly popular items, customers will find it’s even easier to spend less at Tesco.”
